Russian tennis star Daniil Medvedev has made it clear that he absolutely doesn't care about his technique as long as he is winning matches. Medvedev's tennis doesn't look aesthetically pleasing but still he has been one of the best players on the Tour for the past few seasons.
This past US Open, Medvedev saw off Djokovic in straight sets in the final to lift his maiden Grand Slam title. "Frankly speaking, I don't give a damn about my technique," Medvedev told Central Court. "Two days ago, I met (one of my first coaches) Igor Chelyshev and I was curious, I actually asked him because I can't remember it well, 'How was I playing when I was a kid?' He said I was throwing 'kakakhi' and running.
"And it's funny because in some sense nothing has changed. Of course, my groundstrokes are bigger now and so is my serve but I still have this ability to put the ball in the right spot at the right moment and technique doesn't matter here.
"Technique doesn't matter. The task in tennis is putting the ball in the right spot at the right moment. Nothing else matters."

Medvedev aims the No. 1 ranking
Medvedev has been ranked at No. 2 since March and since then he has slowly been reducing Djokovic's lead. Medvedev has admitted that he will try to overcome Djokovic before the season ends but added that he won't worry if it doesn't happen in 2021.
"Becoming the No. 1 in the world is still the goal,” Medvedev said. ”Though Novak did not play several Masters this year, he won three Slams and was in the final of the fourth, so it is logical that he is still No. 1. If I’ll catch up with him this year, excellent, but if not I will try to do it down the road."
