Simona Halep took the train to Linz and the locals were surprised by how humble and simple the former world No. 1 is. Halep, 30, is set to make her first appearance in Linz since 2012. In her first and lone Linz appearance, Halep suffered a round-of-16 loss to Victoria Azarenka.
Top tennis player and celebrities tend to take a private jet when traveling somewhere. Halep, a two-time Grand Slam champion, insists she loves to live normal and claims she has never taken a private jet in her career. "Well everybody is talking about this but it's not the first time that I have done this.
I do normal things. I do separate tennis life from the normal life. I'm a normal person and I like to do the normal things. So it's not difficult to take the train, I really enjoyed it. It was fun. I mean, I was with the team, I don't like private jets.
Anyway, I have never taken a private jet because I like to stay normal," Halep explained in Linz.
Halep praised by Emma Raducanu
US Open champion Raducanu, 18, recently said she finds Halep "really cool."
“Simona is an inspiration to me. I loved watching her from a young age. We have had a few short friendly exchanges. She has been really nice. Which I find really cool. It is amazing now I can play the same tournaments as her, see her around.
I just find her really cool," Raducanu said of Halep in Cluj-Napoca. Raducanu has Romanian roots but she is representing Grand Britain. "The people here are proud of what she has done," Halep told press in Romania.
"They have adopted her, let’s say. "I heard many people talking about this – what she’s done is amazing, it’s huge to win at 18." Halep finished runner-up in Cluj-Napoca and now she is hoping to make a deep run in Linz.
