Shapovalov, on that occasion, only managed to beat the Italian player but not to qualify for the semifinals of the Italian event, then won by Chung in the final against Rublev.

This year, the absolute star of the tournament will be Carlos Alcaraz who had a leading season, reached the top 40 and won his first ATP title in Umag at 18 year-old. Lorenzo Musetti will also participate in the Next Gen Finals.

The Italian is not having one of his best moments, but he will be able to count on the support of the home crowd to surprise everyone once again. Alcaraz and Musetti will only be able to face each other in the semifinals, because they have been included in two different groups.

The Spaniard will be part of Group A together with Brandon Nakashima, Juan Manuel Cerundolo and Holger Rune; while the Italian will have to beat the competition of Sebastian Korda, Sebastian Baez and Hugo Gaston.
