World No. 1 11 Sebastian Baez couldn't hide his happiness after surprising home favorite Lorenzo Musetti at the Next Gen ATP Finals in Milan. Baez came up big in his Next Gen ATP Finals debut as he stunned Acapulco semifinalist Musetti 4-1 4-1 3-4 (5) 4-3 (5).
"I feel so good,” Baez said in his on-court interview, per the Next Gen ATP Finals wensite. “It was a great match and I am happy to win as Lorenzo is a great player. He started to play better and the crowd began to really support him.
It is special for us when you are in your own country with the energy from the people. I tried to stay in the moment and think about the next point”.
Baez stunned Musetti and disappointed the Italian crowd
"Two years ago I saw all of Sinner's games at the Next Gen ATP Finals and now I would like to keep the trophy in Italy (laughs).
Jokes aside, we are all honored to be here and we can't wait to get started," Musetti said in his pre-toirnament interview. Before the start of the tournament, Musetti acknowledged he is aware there are great expectations from him.
"it is obvious that there are great expectations and great attention to me. I am very pleased to have the public on my side and I don't think it will be a burden; it will not be the first time that I play in Italy with support in my favor," Musetti said.
Also, Musetti suggested that the ATP should allow coaching on the Tour. "Coaching is very useful, I don't understand why ATP has not yet followed the WTA model. It ismy favorite rule and it improves the level of tennis: it exists in every sport.
I hope it will be introduced soon on the Tour," Musetti insisted. It remains to be seen if Musetti can lift his game and play better in his remaining two matches.
