Garbine Muguruza: "I feel happy and relieved"

Garbine Muguruza won the 2021 WTA Finals, beating Anett Kontaveit in the final in straight sets with the final score of 6-3 7-5, winning her third title of the season and her tenth in career. Thanks to this victory Garbine will close the season at the 3rd place of the WTA ranking, while Kontaveit, who was defeated twice times by the Spaniard in this event, will close the year at the 7th place.

In the press conference after the victory in Guadalajara, Muguruza said: "I feel really happy, and also a little relieved, because at the beginning of the tournament I struggled to find a good game, but then I gradually managed to adapt.

This one. victory means even more because it was achieved here in Latin America, and especially in Mexico, where the public has always supported me since the first time I came to play here, when I was an unknown player.

Garbine Muguruza: "I feel happy and relieved"

I truly believe this has been my best career season, even though I haven't won slam tournaments.

It was a season in which I managed to find continuity in the game, albeit with ups and downs in the result. The last few seasons have been mixed, but never because of my tennis: sometimes I may not be able to put all the pieces together, but my tennis is always there.

Now I have managed to find a balance towards which I have worked a lot with my team: this victory shows us that work pays off and that we are following the right path. Slam tournaments are bigger, more famous, there is tradition.

But here at the Finals you know there are only the best, and if you win this tournament you can really say you are the best of the year." In career, Garbine Muguruza won 2 Grand Slam titles: the French Open 2016 by beating the North American star Serena Williams, and Wimbledon 2017 by defeating the other Williams, Venus, in straight sets.
