Ljubicic: "Roger Federer at Wimbledon 2022? There is hope"

Roger Federer's presence at Wimbledon 2022 is highly doubtful, as the Swiss Maestro himself admitted during the interview. These statements have made the countless fans of him worry not a little. To the microphones of Rete Uno Sport, Ivan Ljubicic tried to restore a minimum of calm.

Ljubicic tries to clarify: "I can assure you that you must not doubt Roger Federer's sincerity and transparency. What he says is exactly what he is, it is not necessary to read between the lines. He says things as they are, every now and then he avoids making some details public, while in other cases, like this one, he describes the situation perfectly.

Right now, Roger is in the rehabilitation phase. As he said, in January we will start physical preparation, while for tennis we will have to wait a little longer. The re-entry on the tour is so far away that we can't sketch a date.

There is little hope of seeing him at Wimbledon, but it's too early to say too much. I believe that in May we will have clearer ideas."

Roger's season

The eight-time Wimbledon champion has dropped out of the Top 10 for the first time since 2017, yet another symptom of the passing of time.

Roger Federer has played just 13 official matches this year, ending his season prematurely after Wimbledon. The former world number 1 has collected nine wins and four defeats in 2021, giving the feeling of being very far from his best condition.

The round of 16 at Roland Garros and the quarterfinals at the Championships were the only seasonal highs of the King, clearly beaten by Hubert Hurkacz on Center Court last July. A few weeks later, the 40-year-old from Basel announced that he had suffered a knee relapse and had to operate again.

A few days ago, the 20-time Grand Slam champion provided some updates regarding his rehabilitation process. In addition to announcing his resignation from the Australian Open, the Swiss revealed that he will not play any official match until summer 2022.
