NIck Kyrgios: Can't believe how obsessed with tennis I once was

Nick Kyrgios, 26, claims he was once really obsessed with tennis but those days are long gone. After making the Wimbledon quarterfinal as a teenager in 2014, Kyrgios was tipped to become a Grand Slam champion and a future world No.

1. "No one would really believe how obsessed I was. You look at me now, obviously I'm not obsessed as I was. I was like everyday seven hours of trainings and watching plays on YouTube. It was never never ending for years. Looking back I think 'What the hell was I doing'," Kyrgios said on the "No Boundaries" podcast, as revealed by Lorenzo Ercoli.

Kyrgios played in just seven tournaments this season. "I'm happy this way. I love enjoying and doing this sort of stuff (the podcast) with you guys rather then being in Paris right now and playing for the 33rd week of the season," Kyrgios added.

Kyrgios clarifies his suggestion to cancel the Australain Open

“First of all, I just want to clear up a couple of things.

As you know, I’ve started a new podcast with two of my childhood friends, and some things have been taken out of context regarding the Australian Open,” Kyrgios said. “I just wanted to send this video to clear it up, and have a bit of clarity.

"Tennis has been such a big part of my life for 15 years-plus. I have given myself and a lot of sacrifice every single day for this sport. I love it. To say I would want the Australian Open cancelled, that was the sentence that was taken out of context.

“It’s more so for the people of Melbourne, who have been through hell. I think it’s been 275 days, nearly 300 days of lockdown, and your freedom has been taken away from you. “I don’t think it’s morally right to accept players from overseas that aren’t vaccinated, to come into our country."
