Spain Davis Cup team captain Sergi Bruguera insists the atmosphere in the Spanish team is outstanding and he has nothing but good to say of debutant Carlos Alcaraz. Alcaraz, 18, is set to make his Davis Cup debut after winning his first ATP title in Umag and making it all the way at the Next Gen ATP Finals.

Spain won't have Rafael Nadal and Roberto Bautista Agut as Alcaraz, Pablo Carreno Busta, Albert Ramos-Vinolas, Feliciano Lopez and Marcel Granollers will try to help Spain defend their Davis Cup Finals title. “The relationship between the players is very good.

Carlos is an incredibly nice boy, he is very humble, I have to congratulate his parents for the great job they have done with him as a person. He is adjusting very well, I see him happy. The veterans have already been very good friends for years and Carlos is like a sense of fresh air for the team, it is all very pleasant," Bruguera insisted, per Punto de Break.

Alcaraz was in 'shock' after being nominated

"It means a lot to represent Spain in the Davis Cup for the first time, when the captain told me I didn't believe it. It was a dream I had since I was a child and to be able to fulfill it when I'm 18 years old is super nice and super special.

All my teammates are great professionals, and so is Sergi Bruguera. I hope I can learn from them in all areas," Alcaraz said. Coach Juan Carlos Ferrero advised Alcaraz to try to stay calm and just have fun in his Davis Cup debut.

"He told me anecdotes about the Davis Cup, that's another reason I was excited to play it. He repeatedly told me to have fun, not to think of anything else. It will be difficult to play because while the audience is on your side and cheering for you, your nerves may be playing tricks on you. He told me to stay calm, without pressure, to try to take advantage," Alcaraz said of Ferrero's message
