World No. 8 Paula Badosa wants to leave a mark in tennis but not only with her game. Badosa, 24, thinks she could use her experience and knowledge to help others by sharing advice. "I would like to be something more, to leave a mark in tennis for different things.
I think that by explaining what I feel or what I have gone through at certain times I can help a lot to young people who are starting out," Badosa told Punto de Break. Badosa enjoyed a breakout season in 2021 as she won her maiden Masters title in Indian Wells, debuted at the WTA Finals and made her top-10 debut.
After winning her maiden Masters title, Badosa fell just short of winning it all in her WTA Finals debut. Badosa made the WTA Finals final before losing to Garbine Muguruza.
Badosa always dreamed of winning big tournaments
"I always dreamed of winning big tournaments and this is one of them.
There were also negative things, like starting the year with COVID and a 21-day confinement, that was very hard. The defeat at Roland Garros was something that hurt me a lot, but you learn from everything," Badosa admitted.
The 2021 season was a breakout year for Badosa but also a great learning experience. Badosa experienced many things for the first time in 2021 and now she is hoping to use the experience and make even better results in 2022.
"It was very new for me, all these situations, being in these rounds, playing in front of a lot of people. Everything was really big at the beginning of the season, having these results. I think now I quite feel it's more normal and I'm getting used to it. I think that will help me for next year as well if I want to do big things," Badosa said.
