Iga Swiatek prefers to practice with fellow tour players over hitting partners because that way she can feel the atmosphere she has during her matches and also that way she has a better chance of seeing where her game is.
“In Poland I only play with guys, with sparring partners. When I'm in a tournament, I want to use that time to play some points and feel the atmosphere that we have on matches," Swiatek said, as quoted on Sportskeeda.
"Playing with girls, it also shows me what my level is because they are my competitors." Swiatek admitted that she is an introverted type of person and practicing with fellow tour players giver her a chance to socialize and potentially get closer to some other players.
“It is also our only chance to talk with each other because we are alone on court. We can also catch up and just meet each other," Swiatek said. "It kind of gives me a reason to socialize. I'm an introvert, so I need a reason."
Swiatek set to kick off her season
Swiatek decided to kick off her 2022 season in the opening week of the season in Adelaide.
Swiatek enjoyed success in Adelaide a year ago as she made it all the way. It was Swiatek’s first title since winning the 2020 French Open. “Adelaide was great because I know that usually people have doubts when you win a Grand Slam, if you're going to be able to keep being in the same shape and going down a good path," Swiatek told WTA Insider.
"I had the same doubts, because even before winning Roland Garros I didn't play great tournaments. So winning this tournament, it really gave me a lot of confidence”. Swiatek made some changes in the offseason as she split with her long-term coach Piotr Sierzputowski.
After splitting with Sierzputowski, Swiatek hired Agnieszka Radwanska’s ex-coach Tomasz Wiktorowski.
