Felix Auger-Aliassime reacts to stunning Alexander Zverev at ATP Cup

World No. 11 Felix Auger-Aliassime was thrilled to beat Alexander Zverev at the ATP Cup. Auger-Aliassime delivered a good performance to stun Zverev 6-4 4-6 6-3 at the ATP Cup on Thursday. Auger-Aliassime's win over Zverev sealed victory for Canada over Germany as Denis Shapovalov beat Jan-Lennard Struff in the opening rubber of the tie.

It was Auger-Aliassime's second win over Zverev as the German now leads their head-to-head 4-2. Auger-Aliassime lost to Taylor Fritz in his opening match at the tournament but then beat Cameron Norrie and Zverev. “It feels good to beat Zverev,” Auger-Aliassime said in his on-court interview, per the ATP Cup website.

“I played a great match. He is a great player and he has beaten me a couple of times before, so I am happy I was able to get the job done today, especially for the team. We started off on a tough day a couple of days ago, so to finish off strong and be through to the semis is special.

The atmosphere was great at the end, that is what we play for”.

In the opening match of the tie, Shapovalov beat Struff 7-6 (4) 4-6 6-3. “It is just great to be back and playing,” Shapovalov said in his on-court interview.

“We have got a great chance. There is a lot ahead of us, but we are fighting and we have been fighting every single match. Felix inspired us a lot in the previous tie and we are just trying to give all we have for Canada”.

Despite the win, Shapovalov still has a losing record against Struff as the German now leads their head-to-head 5-3. “I knew I had to fight every point,” Shapovalov added. “I have had a tough record against Struffi, he is a tough player to play and he always brings it against me. I think the level was really, really high so it was a great win to get”.
