Former world No. 1 Naomi Osaka revealed she watched a bit of the Grigor Dimitrov and Botic van de Zandschulp clash as she admired the way they were closing the points at the net. Osaka, a four-time Grand Slam champion, would like to improve her net game as she feels that is very important part of the game.
Former world No. 3 Dimitrov recovered from a set down to beat van de Zandschulp and reach the Melbourne Summer Set semiifnal. "Me & Wim worked on it a lot, we've been trying to work on my touch which he says isn't that bad.
I was watching Dimitrov play before that; him & his opponent seemed to be quite good ending things @ net. I just wanted to kinda be like that. Maybe I got inspiration from them," Osaka said, per Reem Abulleil.
Osaka enjoying a good start to 2022
Osaka is playing her first tournament since the US Open.
Osaka has been playing well this week as she has been through to the Melbourne Summer Set 1 semifinal. Before the tournament started, Osaka revealed her goal for 2022 is to have fun and never again cry in the pressroom.
“For me, I just want to feel like every time I step on the court I’m having fun. I can walk off the court knowing that even if I lost, I tried as hard as I could. Also I have a goal in the pressroom, that I’m never going to cry again, so hopefully that works out in my favour.
“I just feel like for me, I’m the type of person that cared a little bit too much about the results and the ranking and stuff like that. And I just need to find a way to enjoy the game again because that’s the reason why I was playing in the first place.
“I’m trying this out. Of course I’m not sure if this is going to work out well. I guess I’ll let you know after this tournament."
