Cori Gauff on 2022 goals: Grand Slam title and less time on TikTok

Cori Gauff, 17, was glad to see Emma Raducanu and Leylah Fernandez do well at the US Open as she is hoping to make a strong Grand Slam run in 2022. Raducanu and Fernandez, both 19, made their maiden Grand Slam final at the US Open.

Raducanu, who was 18 at the time of the US Open, beat Fernandez in straight sets to lift her maiden Grand Slam glory. “I was super ecstatic for the both of them,” Gauff told the WTA website. “It was kind of cool to see it happen at a tournament where I guess no one expected that to happen.

"We were all in the same tournaments as a juniors, so it’s nice to see someone around my age doing so well. “Obviously, you can’t be anything but inspired for yourself to do as well, or even better than them”.

Gauff on her GOAT aspirations

Five years ago -- in one her first major interviews -- Gauff stated she wanted to be the greatest tennis player ever. Gauff was asked if she thought she was on schedule to achieve that. “For me,” she said, “there’s not really a schedule to it.

I would say I’m more than ahead of schedule because I don’t really know what plan my parents or my team laid out for me. I don’t know what’s in it – or not in it. “I will say, definitely, I’m always the type of person who’s never satisfied, I always want to better and be hungry.

When I win a tournament, I’m already looking forward to the next. But sometimes I try to take a step back and really enjoy the things I’ve accomplished”. Also, Gauff vowed to spend less time on TikTok. “Less time on TikTok – yeah, that’s the biggest one,” she said.

“I don’t know my exact screen time, but I would say, for sure at least two to three hours a day," Gauff said. “I’ve got to work on that”.
