Belinda Bencic explains how much gold medal means to her

Swiss tennis star Belinda Bencic said her gold medal is "just everything" for her and said nothing ever will be bigger than her gold medal. Bencic, a former world No. 4, won her maiden gold medal after beating Czech Marketa Vondrousova in the Tokyo Olympics final.

Bencic also enjoyed success in the doubles event as she and Viktorija Golubic captured the silver medal. "For me the gold medal is just everything. Nothing will get bigger than that. I will trade every loss for this gold's really my baby.'

But: 'I'm not like, I have nothing to lose this year. For me this mentality by winning the gold feels like I'm more free now," Bencic said, per Ravi Ubha.

Bencic found a suitable place for her medals

"I found a nice place,” Bencic said in October.

“I have framed the medals and put a t-shirt from the Olympic Games and some photos inside. “It is something very nice to have within our house and my boyfriend and I love to look at it when we walk past. It is a really nice memory and looking at the gold medal is just so special.

Those goosebumps are definitely still there." After returning home from the Mubadala World Tennis Championships, Bencic tested positive for COVID-19. "Hi everyone, I just wanted to provide a quick update that unfortunately and even though I'm fully vaccinated, I recently tested positive for COVID-19.

I'm currently isolating and taking all precautionary measurements to get through this as best as possible as I'm experiencing quite severe symptoms /fever, aches, chills). While the timing is not ideal - as i was in the final stages of my preparations for the Australian Open swing -- I will make my way to Australia as soon as I'm cleared and past the isolation period," Bencic announced on December 21.

Bencic's preparation for the 2022 season took a bit of a blow but on Tuesday she made a winning start to her season as she beat Beatriz Haddad Maia 6-3 6-2 in her Sydney opener.
