Benoit Paire gives credit to crowd for helping him change his mood

French tennis player Benoit Paire admitted he hasn't been feeling well mentally or physically since the start of the season but he absolutely enjoyed his Australian Open first round clash. On Tuesday, world No. 56 Paire edged out Brazil's Thiago Monteiro 6-4 3-6 7-5 2-6 7-5 to reach the Australian Open second round.

It was Paire's first win of the season as previously he lost his openers at the Melbourne Summer Set and Adelaide 2. It is not a secret that Paire thrives when playing in front of a packed crowd. "Since the beginning of the season I feel like bad mentally, I feel bad physically, and today it was different with the crowd, with the all the support I received from the crowd.

It was something crazy," Paire said, as revealed by Lorenzo Carini.

Paire suffered a setback just before the season started

Paire is no stranger to testing positive for COVID-19 and his frustration was boiling after he tested positive just days before the start of the new season.

“Hey my name is Benoit Paire, and for the 250th time I tested positive for Covid!!” Paire said in an Instagram story in late December. “Honestly I can’t deal with this Covid s*** anymore. How am I doing? Because of Covid I got a runny nose, but because of all these quarantines spent in an hotel room halfway across the world, I don’t feel good mentally.

“Last year was tough, and this year start exactly the same way!!” After the 2021 season, Paire said he wanted to forget 2021 and do some big things in 2022. "For me, 2022 has already begun. It was a difficult season that I want to forget as soon as possible, there is nothing to remember from 2021.

My head is already in 2022 and I feel prepared: I want to return to the top-20 and my intention is to have a great year," Paire told Tennis Actu in November. Paire plays Grigor DImitrov in the Australian Open third round.
