In-form Madison Keys enjoying every moment at Australian Open

Former world No. 7 Madison Keys was glad she managed to wrap things up in straight sets against Jaqueline Cristian and progress into the Australian Open third round. Keys, who won Adelaide 2 last week, defeated Cristian 6-2 7-5 to set up a third meeting against Wang Qiang.

"I'm feeling pretty good. I really had to fight in that second set to close it out in two," Keys said, per the WTA website. "I'm really just appreciating every moment on court and trying to have a lot of fun, but I also just really love competing even in those tough moments.

"Not a lot of people in the world get to be on a stage at 5-5 in the second to make the third round of the Australian Open, so I'm really just enjoying those moments."

Keys credits TikTok influencer for helping her get her groove back

Keys had a rough year last year and she found herself in a bad place.

Winning Adelaide last week meant so much for Keys as she badly needed a good start to 2022 after what happened in 2021. Keys was asked who it was that helped her get her groove back. “I’m a little bit embarrassed to admit it, but there were a few different things but one of the first things that really made me kind of snap out of it was, there's this girl on TikTok and her name is Tinx (@itsmetinx).

She's constantly saying, ‘Comparison is the thief of joy’. And that really actually made me – I mean, I know she didn't come up with the quote, but that's who I heard it from first,” explained Keys.

“But it just really made me change my perspective of, why am I focused on comparing everything that I've done and I'm doing to everyone else around me when it's just making me miserable? Why would why am I going to keep doing that?"
