Amanda Anisimova reveals similarity with Naomi Osaka

Rising American star Amanda Anisimova is looking forward to clashing Naomi Osaka at the Australian Open as she feels they are similar in some ways. Anisimova, ranked at No. 60 in the world, surprised Tokyo Olympics gold medalist Belinda Bencic 6-2 7-5 to reach the Australian Open third round.

“I like her game a lot. I like watching her play. I think our personalities are a little bit similar in terms of composure and trying to be the quiet players on tour,” Anisimova said, per WTA Insider. "I'm also a pretty aggressive player, so I just want to see how our games will match up."

“I've never hit with her or practiced with her, so it will definitely be really new going into the match. It's really nice to see her around, because I heard of her story and on what happened to her, so it's really good, like she's pushing through it,” Osaka said of Anisimova.

Anisimova, who claimed the Melbourne Summer Set 2 title in her first tournament of the season, continued her winning streak on Wednesday when she met Bencic. It was actually Bencic who made a positive start to the match, having broken Anisimova in the opening game of the match.

However, Bencic’s lead was short-lived as Anisimova broke back in the second game. The two players were tied at two games apiece after the opening four games before Anisimova claimed back-to-back breaks to win four games in a row and seal the opener.

After losing the first set, Bencic made a good start to the second set as she broke Anisimova in the fifth game. Again, Bencic’s lead was short-lived as Anisimova broke back in the sixth game. Anisimova then claimed her fifth break of the match in the 12th game to book a straight-set win. It remains to be seen if Anisimova can upset Osaka in the Australian Open third round.
