Alex de Minaur reveals his mindset and attitutude for 2022

Australia's Alex de Minaur was absolutely thrilled after winning his first match at Rod Laver Arena. De Minaur, ranked at No. 42 in the world, saw off Kamil Majchrzak 6-4 6-4 6-2 to progress into the Australian Open third round.

“I’m very happy, especially to get my first win ever at Rod Laver Arena in an Australian Open,” de Minaur told Jim Courier after the match, as quoted on Tennis Australia. “I’m happy to be able to play on an amazing court in front of my home fans”.

De Minaur now has a good chance to make the round-of-16 as he plays next Pablo Andujar. “I know Pablo very well; I’ve hit a lot with him. He’s a terrific competitor and he’s had some amazing wins,” de Minaur said.

De Minaur had a strong preseason

De Minaur had a rough 2021 season, in which he struggled after contracting COVID-19. De Minaur's mindset for this year is to make every opponent work hard against him. “I just knew that as soon as it was done, I had to get back on the ground, I had a bit of a down year last year, so I was determined to make up for it.

“I wanted to be in the best shape of my career and hard work pays off. “Time to let my fitness do the talking. I want to chase every ball and make things as hard as I can for my opponents”. De Minaur's goal for 2022 is to keep positive attitude throughout the year.

“For me, the most important thing was my attitude. You know, that was what won me the match. I was positive throughout the whole night,” de Minaur said. “I didn’t let anything get in my head, and I just kept on going.

I was playing every point for its merit, and eventually things started to go my way and I was able to take control. “Positive vibes only for 2022 is my motto”.
