Zhang Shuai shares kind words to Dayana Yastremska after Lyon final

China's Zhang Shuai showed her class and spoke highly of Dayana Yastremska after winning a tight Lyon final. Zhang, who was playing in Lyon for the first time in her career, recovered from a set down to beat Yastremska 3-6 6-3 6-4 and lift her third WTA title.

Zhang, who came to Lyon without any notable results this year, put up a strong week to win her first title of the season. "An incredible week, very high-quality match in the final," Zhang said after her win. "I saw [Yastremska] grow up over the last three or four years, she’s already won many tournaments.

She plays so well, very powerful, so I was really focused on myself today. I’m really proud of winning."

Zhang claimed a comeback win over Yastremska

No break points were seen until the sixth game, when Yastremska realized her first break point to take a 4-2 lead.

Yastremska then routinely held on to her serve the rest of the set to win the opener. After winning the first set, Yastremska broka Zhang in the opening game of the second set. Just when it seemed that Yastremska was controlling everything, Zhang claimed back-to-back breaks to win four games in a row and take a 4-1 lead in the second set.

Yastremska served out the sixth game to end Zhang's run but the Chinese held on to her serve the rest of the set to force a decider. Yastremska responded well to losing the second set as she took an early 2-0 lead in the third set.

But Yastremska once again got broken back immediately after going up by a break as Zhang broke back the Ukrainian in the third game. Yastremska earned her second break of the third set in the sixth game to take a 4-2 lead but then her game shut down in the rest of the match.

After falling 4-2 down in the third set, Zhang responded by claiming back-to-back breaks to win four games in a row and complete a comeback win.
