Karolina Pliskova shares kind message to Ashleigh Barty

Former world No. 1 Karolina Pliskova congratulated Ashleigh Barty on a great career and said it was a privilege to share the court with her. Barty pulled off a shocker on Wednesday when she announced her retirement from tennis at the age of 25.

Barty is one of the reasons why Pliskova doesn't have a Grand Slam title as the Australian defeated the Czech in last year's Wimbledon final. "Congrats on an incredible career Ash. It was a privilege to share a court with you.

Wishing you all the best in your next chapter, @ashbarty. You will be missed," Pliskova wrote on Twitter.

Barty's perspective changed after her Wimbledon victory

Barty lifred her first Wimbledon title after overcoming Pliskova in three sets 6-3 6-7 (4) 6-3.

"It's something I've been thinking about for a long time. I've had a lot of icredible moments in my career that have been pivotal moments. Wimbledon last year changed a lot for me as a person and for me as an athlete.

You work so hard your whole life for one goal and I've been able to share that with so many incredible people," Barty said in a conversation with Casey Dellacqua. "But to be able to win Wimbledon, which was my dream - the one true dream that I wanted in tennis - that really changed my perspective.

I just had that gut feeling after Wimbledon and had spoken to my team quite a lot about it. There was just a little part of me that wasn't quite satisfied, that wasn't quite fulfilled. And then came the challenge of the Australian Open.

That for me just feels like the most perfect way, my perfect way, to celebrate what an amazing journey my tennis career has been. "As a person, this is what I want. I want to chase after some other dreams that I always wanted to do. I always had that really healthy balance, but I'm really, really excited."
