Nick Kyrgios gives thoughts on Jenson Brooksby's game

Nick Kyrgios offered some high praise for Jenson Brooksby when asked about the rising American star in Miami. Kyrgios, a six-time ATP champion, has never played Brooksby but he has predicted a bright future for the 21-year-old.

"He's going to be someone we're going to have to nurture and actually care for in our sport. He's incredibly talented. He's unorthodox. He's my polar opposite I think like on the court, like he's very strange, I guess, to watch but he's awesome," Kyrgios said of Brooksby, per Tennis Majors.

Kyrgios destroyed Andrey Rublev

On Friday, Kyrgios was all about business as he saw off world No. 7 Rublev 6-3 6-0 in the Miami second round. Kyrgios found himself down by an early break but quickly recovered and absolutely dominated the rest of the match.

“He came out hot in the start,” said Kyrgios. “That’s tennis, a couple of points can swing the momentum change like that. Once I got that double break I started seeing the return really well – I’ve been returning well the last couple of months.

When that’s happening, I’m serving the way I’m serving, I’m feeling the way I’m feeling, my shoulders opened up and I just ran with it”. Rublev is one of the best players on the Tour but Kyrgios impressively handled the Russian.

“I know that he’s the type of player that relies on a little bit of rhythm, so I just tried to keep the points short and sharp,” Kyrgios added. “Just play aggressive, I can’t let him get on to too many groundstrokes.

“I’m just happy with my performance, whether it’s 7-6 in the third or something like [today’s scoreline], I’m just happy to get through. Top-10, top-20 or top-1000, I don’t really care. I could lose to anyone on any given day or beat anyone – that’s been the story of my career so I’m just happy to get through”.
