Joe Salisbury reacts to becoming new doubles No. 1

British tennis star Joe Salisbury admitted reaching the No. 1 ranking felt surreal and added it's a very special moment for him. After Nikola Mektic and Mate Pavic lost in the Miami second round, Salisbury was guaranteed to replace Pavis as the No.

1 after Miami. On Sunday, Salisbury and his partner Rajeev Ram delivered a good performance to beat Feliciano Lopez and Stefanos Tsitsipas 7-5 7-6 (2). Salisbury didn't know about being the new No. 1 until he was told following his and Ram's victory.

"It seems a bit crazy, to be honest. But yeah, so happy," Salisbury said post-match, per the ATP Tour website." This week, we're focussing on doing as well as we can, trying to win this tournament in Miami.

But yeah, obviously very satisfied. What we've done as a team, with Rajeev, to be No. 1 in the team rankings as well now, it's pretty special."

Salisbury thrilled with the success he has achieved with Ram

Salisbury and Ram won two titles in 2019 before they lifted their first Grand Slam title as a duo at the 2020 Australian Open.

Last year, Salisbury and Ram lifted their second Grand Slam title after making it all the way at the US Open. Salisbury and Ram enjoyed a strong summer last year as they also went all the way at the Toronto Masters. "It's always been a goal," Salisbury said of the No.

1 position. "I think we've been focused more on winning tournaments as a team, winning Masters 1000s, winning Grand Slams. But yeah, obviously it's amazing for us that we're going to be going into tournaments as the No.

1 seed. To have the No. 1 ranking is amazing. It's a special moment." Salisbury and Ram haven't yet won any titles in 2022 but they have had some strong runs as they made the semifinals at the Australian Open and Indian Wells.
