Thanks to the excellent start to the season, characterized by the double success at the Australian Open, Nick Kyrgios finally seems to have found the right continuity to achieve important results. The Australian has expressed an excellent level of play in recent weeks and at the Masters 1000 in Indian Wells and Miami he has defeated some of the best tennis players in the world.
In California, Kyrgios only surrendered in the third set against Rafael Nadal in the quarter-finals; while Jannik Sinner thought about it in the round of 16 to stop his path at the Miami Open. The 26-year-old from Canberra has also decided to participate in some tournaments during the clay court season, something that hasn't happened since 2019.
The last official match played by Kyrgios on this surface remains the second round of the 76th edition of the Internazionali BNL d'Italia lost to Casper Ruud. The Australian will take part in the ATP 250 tournament in Houston this week.
Nick Kyrgios: "My girlfriend wants to visit Paris"
Kyrgios has even confessed that he will return to play the Roland Garros in 2023 after criticism of the Parisian Grand Slam in the past. The Australian has been missing from Paris for four years and Roland Garros remains one of two majors, along with the US Open, that he has never pushed into until the second week.
Kyrgios told reporter Blair Henley: "I will play in Paris next year. I am announcing that I will participate at the Roland Garros 2023. I have not played this tournament for four years, so I will be back on the court in Paris next year.
Why in 2023? My fiancée wants to see and visit Paris and I will play Roland Garros. After the clay season she will return home and then leave to play the tournaments on grass. I've already made this decision. Spending time at home is crucial, as the next trip will be three months.
Time at home is really precious. When you come from Australia, above all, you are very homesick. Both my girlfriend and I care a lot about the family, so I have to plan my commitments in the best possible way."
