Annabel Croft: Emma Raducanu might surprise people in rest of 2022

Tennis pundit Annabel Croft thinks Emma Raducanu is a "big match player on the big stage" and that is why the Briton could potentially do well in some of the biggest events in the rest of the season. Raducanu, who put up an astonishing run at the US Open to lift her first Grand Slam title, hasn't had any triumphs since.

The expectations have been lowered a bit on Raducanu but she is still considered as one of the most talented players on the WTA Tour and is ranked at No. 12 in the world. “I think she might surprise people,” Croft told Tennis365.

“She is a big match player on the big stage. It is going to be difficult to cope with all the tension and pressure this summer, but she copes with it very well. “She has not done too badly so far. She has lost some tight matches, but she has got through to some quarter-finals and it is tough for her with a target on her back, but she handles it so well.

“Everyone thinks it’s going to be tough for her, but I think she could cause a few surprises”.

Raducanu set for a Frrench Open debut

Raducanu, 19, is playing her first full season on the WTA Tour and the time has come for her to make her French Open debut Before the clay season began, many were curious to see how would Raducanu play on what many thought was her weakest surface.

Raducanu has had a solid clay season so far as she reached the Stuttgart and also won two matches in Madrid. In Rome, Raducanu retired her first round match versus Bianca Andreescu. Raducanu will kick off her French Open campaign against a qualifier and it will be interesting to see how far can he go in her debut at Roland Garros. After Roland Garros, Raducanu's focus will switch onto the grass season and Wimbledon.
