Elena Rybakina reacts to ousting Simona Halep for Wimbledon final spot

World No. 23 Elena Rybakina defeated Simona Halep for her maiden Grand Slam final and started her on-court speech by showing her respect to the two-time Grand Slam champion. Rybakina, 23, was playing in her first Grand Slam semifinal but showed no signs of nervousness as she ousted Halep 6-3 6-3 to reach the Wimbledon final.

Halep is a two-time Grand Slam champion and she made it all the way at The Championships in 2019. In the Wimbledon final, Rybakina plays Ons Jabeur, someone who she considers "a very tricky player." “Simona is a great champion but I was really focused today and really happy with my performance,” Rybakina said, per Tennis365.

“I was nervous, of course, but the matches I had before on Court One helped. It was my first time on Centre Court but the atmosphere I had before helped me a lot. I think today I was mentally prepared and did everything I could.

It was an amazing match. Ons is a very good, very tricky player and it’s not going to be easy to play her drop shots. But I think it’s going to be a great match”.

Rybakina ousted Halep

Rybakina came out firing as she claimed the first break of the match in the second game and led 3-0 after the opening three games.

Rybakina had at least one break point in each of Halep's service games in the first set but managed to break the Romanian only in the second game. However, one break of serve was more than enough for Rybakina, who didn't face a single break point in the first set.

After winning the first set, Rybakina started the second set with a break and a 2-0 lead. However, Halep refused to quit as she claimed her first break of the match in the fourth game to level the second set to two games apiece.

Just when it seemed Halep was starting to play better, Rybakina became even more aggressive and broke the Romanian again in the fifth and ninth games to complete a straight-set win.
