This year of 2022 is by no means an easy year for Russian tennis player Daniil Medvedev. Thanks to the troubles of Novak Djokovic, the Russian became number one but his season was very complicated and Daniil was unable to obtain top level victories.
The exclusion from Wimbledon as a Russian athlete was a heavy blow but the player now feels ready to leave. Medvedev spoke to the microphones of the ATP website in view of the Los Cabos tournament, where he will try to return to success.
Here are his statements: "Number one? Obviously I will try to do what I can but it also depends on others, I am aware that to defend the title I would have to win all the remaining tournaments and therefore I believe that at the end of the year Rafael Nadal will be the number one in the world.
In the meantime, I will try to keep it for a long time, in North America I have always done well and I want to continue like this." The Russian tennis player has recently reached the eleventh week as number one in the world, thus breaking the records of famous compatriots such as Marat Safin and Yevgeny Kafelnikov, never reached 10 weeks at the top of the ranking.
Daniil Medvedev and the come back to the court
The Russian tennis player spoke of his long absence and made the following statements. Medvedev had not played since the Mallorca tournament and said: "It's all hard to say.
It's always different, but it is certainly important for me now to win games." In the second round (the Russian has the Bye) Medvedev will face the Australian tennis player Rinky Hijikata. On the next opponent, without mentioning him, the first round match was played in the night, Medvedev clarified: "Each opponent can be very difficult, so I can say that the more matches you win and the more confidence you can gain, you start to feel your game better and this is what I will try to do in the Los Cabos tournament." In the North American tournament Medvedev will try to win the title in front of opponents like Felix Auger Aliassime and Cameron Norrie.
