Thanks to several convincing performances and four hard-fought victories, Holger Rune deservedly earned one of the two places in the final of the ATP 250 in Sofia. The Dane managed to surprise the Italian Jannik Sinner in the semifinals, who withdrew one game from defeat due to a disastrous fall.
The young player showed a very good level of tennis and in all probability would have obtained the pass for the final act of the tournament even without the unfortunate injury of the Italian. At the end of the race, to the microphones of the ATP tour, the 19-year-old native of Copenhagen revealed all his disappointment for the epilogue of the challenge.
Rune told: "Obviously it's never the way you want to win. It was such a great match too. It's the worst way it could have ended and I just want to wish Jannik all the best. He is an extraordinary player and what he has shown this year has been incredible.
I wish him a speedy recovery."

Rune then analyzed his race: "I think it was a great game until the end. I obviously felt a bit tired after the Friday battle, but I really pushed hard and gave it my all.
So I'm happy with the way I fought and happy with my level shown here in Bulgaria." not to be underestimated and protagonist of a great week in Sofia: "He played very well and served so well. Especially here he is getting a lot of points thanks to his serve.
So it's going to be another tough match and I really have to play to my full potential while serving well at the same time. It will certainly be an interesting gam." With the result obtained, Rune also secured the possibility of playing the Next Gen Atp Finals in Milan in November.
Sinner and Rune, with Casper Ruud, Carlos Alcaraz and Frances Tiafoe are the rpesent and the near future of man's tennis, withe the Spaniard who won his first Major, just against Ruud, at the US Open 2022.
