Austin on her son qualifying for the US Open
Holt, who played college tennis before turning pro in 2020, qualified for the US Open after beating Dimitar Kuzmanov 6-4 3-6 6-3 in the qualifying final round.
“Pinch me! I still can’t believe he’s playing in the main draw, that’s just wild. Wow, wow. That was really nerve-racking. I can’t remember the last time I was that nervous,” Austin told Eurosport after her son qualified for the US Open main draw.
After winning three qualifying matches, Holt clinched the biggest win of his career as he upset world No 9 Taylor Fritz 6-7 (3) 7-6 (1) 6-3 6-4. “I'm very happy that it ended up going my way because I could have definitely been losing in that fourth set, starting a fifth set if a few points would have gone a different way.
I think Taylor elevated his game a lot. He started playing really well. I was playing really well, as well. It was a really fun match for me. I'm very, very pleased to get out of it," Holt said after stunning Fritz. After winning his first four matches at the US Open, Holt's US Open run ended with a five-set loss to Pedro Cachin in the second round. Holt finished the 2022 season ranked at No 218 in the world.
