The Australian Open 2023 saw not only the victory of the Serbian champion Novak Djokovic, but also a sensational surprise in the women's draw. Belarusian Aryna Sabalenka got her first Grand Slam title, by sweeping the Slam Down Unden opponents.

She won in comeback after a two hours and 28 minutes battle against Elena Rybakina, closing the match with the result of 4-6; 6-3; 6-4. During an intervention on the Advantage Connors podcast, the former tennis legend Jimmy Connors talked about Sabalenka's victory and he released interesting statements.

He explained: "I'm very happy for Aryna, I hope I don't get into that post champion situation Slam. I hope she doesn't decide she can live off this victory for five years, I think she should live it like this: Now I'm at this point and I want to stay there.

I want to play the kind of tennis needed to stay at the top for five years and keep winning for some time." Connors clarified the reasons for these words by stating: "It's fine to party and have fun, but we mustn't forget that next week you'll be back on the court and face another tournament.

I hope you don't lose that confidence right away." Aryna Sabalenka has joined Martina Navratilova, Martina Hingis and Serena Williams and the four of them are part of the club that won the Australian Open in both singles and doubles.

The latest on Aryna Sabalenka

Several times Sabalenka came close to winning Grand Slams, but she always gave up in the final stages. This time it didn't go like this and the Belarusian won and rose to second position in the world rankings.

Even the famous journalist Steve Flink recently applauded the exploits of the tennis player: "Now I see her calmer and more composed. Even when she double faulted on match point in the final she remained focused, she continued to play and finally triumphed.

In the final she defended better and played better from the baseline, she's a good tennis player but she still has a lot of room for growth."
