Emma Raducanu: "I've rediscovered the fun on the court"

Emma Raducanu, after overcoming Danka Kovinic in the first round of Indian Wells 2023, also overtook the Polish Magda Linette 7-6(3) 6-2. After the match, the young British tennis player spoke about both the challenge and her moment.

Indeed, even 2023 did not start in the best way for the 2023 US Open champion. However, right in California, Emma is trying to rise from the ashes. She explained during an interview: "I've had so little time to train as I would like to in the last few weeks, that playing these kinds of matches in a tournament like this is a bonus for me. I've finally found the taste for fun that competition gives you.

I think this feeling now will definitely make me superior in my mindset in the face of injuries. So I'm really appreciating how many times I get to get out on the court. Due to the amount of setbacks I've had this past year and the amount of time I've spent off the pitch in the last 18 months, I think that then leads you to definitely appreciate more time on the pitch when you're able to get back in.

Of course, as you know, I've had a couple of row of issues physical, so I'm really happy to be on the court." The British also said: "I feel good about the way I'm working with my team, without being too happy with my results or not being happy.

You have to keep a balance. I feel pretty good about the way things are going, but the way it's still a long way off."

John McEnore on Emma

Former tennis player and legend of the sport John McEnroe spoke to Tennis 365 commenting on the tennis player's difficulties.

Here are his words: "I think the last year has been really overwhelming for Emma. She went through a lot of changes and towards the end of last year but now she too has had to struggle with injuries. At the last Australian Open I felt that the pressure was not on her, but on her rival Coco Gauff and I think this is not bad for a tennis player like her.

Everyone in the tennis world hopes that she can accept what is happening and that she can recover the level shown at those US Opens. I haven't seen her since last Wimbledon and I have to say we were concerned about the changes in her life and how Emma was coping with them.

We want to see her compete and enjoy tennis fully again, that's what we want to see. Then I want to be clear, you don't win a Grand Slam tournament with luck, Emma is a great player and she can go back to challenging all of her rivals."
