Alize Cornet on Camila Giorgi: "The crowd was on my side, but that wasn't enough"

Alize Cornet expressed her frustration after leaving her home tournament, the Roland Garros 2023, in the first round. The Frenchwoman attributed a fundamental role to the explosiveness of Camila Giorgi's shots. The Italian player, during the day, certainly turns out to be one of the most complicated rivals to face due to an aggressiveness capable of depriving you of time and space.
Cornet on Giorgi: "You can't play against her"
Alize explained in the èress conference: "I'm disappointed, I didn't play the way I wanted, it wasn't a good match. During the second set I had a few chances, she made a lot of mistakes, but I wasn't really in the match.
Her style of play puts a lot of pressure on you. I tried to find my rhythm but lost in straight sets. I have not served well. The crowd was on my side, but that wasn't enough. I never expect anything when I go out on the court. I know what I can do.
But during the first round of a Grand Slam, you never know what to expect, especially against a player like Camila. You can't play against her. I could have played a better game." Despite some physical problems and the passage of time, Cornet's goal could be to participate for the twentieth time in her career at the Roland Garros next season.
Then she added: "I don't know. Sometimes you have to be patient and keep working. But in a year there will be a big question mark. I will try to finish my season at the US Open. I will try to play well and do things correctly." Giorgi said about the Parisian crowd: "Playing here in Paris is fantastic.
It was a great game today, in every sense, because it wasn't easy with a stadium against. It was a positive day." Giorgi will face number three seed Jessica Pegula in the second round
