Carlos Alcaraz won his first Wimbledon title on Sunday, replacing 7-times champion Novak Djokovic on the London throne. The Spaniard once again reaffirmed his strength, despite being just 20 years old. The Serbian hadn't lost on Center Court for over 10 years.

His defeat made the insiders talk a lot, who for months had been talking about a possible Calendar Grand Slam. Mats Wilander, former champion, now sports commentator, wanted to pay homage to the 23-time Grand Slam champion, who stopped one step away from yet another feat.

Mats analysed: "We see him losing, which is difficult, but at the same time the way he carries himself on the court is fantastic. He is a great champion and has pushed our sport to the next level.

Reflecting on the performance of Alcaraz, the seven-time All England Club lawn champion said the 20-year-old is a special player who has the qualities of Federer, Nadal and Djokovic. And I think it's really important to have a new champion, a new Wimbledon champion, and it's even more important that it's Spanish because it's something so special, that maybe we've never seen before in our sport." He shares Nole's opinion: "Novak is right, because Alcaraz has Federer's touch, Nadal's passion and Djokovic's movement and defensive skills.

Of course it's never pleasant to lose matches like this, but I think once the emotions have settled I still have to be very grateful because I've won a lot of close, hard-fought matches over the last year." The Swede talked about how the tennis player from Belgrade may have had a touch of bad luck, but perhaps evened the score for past events: "To name a few, in 2019 against Roger in that Wimbledon final I was down by a match point. Maybe I should have lost a couple of finals that I won. So I think this is a draw."
