During the press conference following her win over Iga Swiatek in the US Open's round of 16, Jelena Ostapenko apologized to a Polish journalist who confessed he was sad because his compatriot left the Grand Slam. "I apologize, I'm a little upset because you ousted our champion," said the Polish journalist.

"I'm sorry," Ostapenko responded with a smile.

The journalist followed up by saying he now roots for Ostapenko because she's from Eastern Europe, just like Swiatek.

Swiatek is looking for answers to her bad game

After the loss, Iga Swiatek admitted that it was her fault for losing the match. "My mistakes were so huge, I had no idea why suddenly I couldn't return.

I'm a good returner. I was focusing on the same things as in the first set, and the same things overall, when my game is working. I don't know. I need to watch. Maybe this will give me some answers," Swiatek said, via Tennis Now.

"I'm just surprised that my level changed so drastically because usually when I play bad, I play bad at the beginning, then I kind of catch up or just problem solve.

This time it was totally the opposite," Swiatek also said.
