Italy suffered but achieved qualification for the Davis Cup Finals, an event that will be held in Malaga this year. Italy await the draw and will face one of Holland or Great Britain.

It won't be easy but it still remains a positive note given that Italy risked not participating in this match.

Italy, without Matteo Berrettini and especially Jannik Sinner, fell 3-0 on their debut against Canada and there was great fear of not making it.

Then the 3-0 against Chile and above all, to facilitate the national team, it was the North American national team who, having already qualified, still beat Chile.

It was almost a formality (one victory in three matches was enough) but the team by Filippo Volandri beat Sweden 2-1.

Excellent news for Italy and it's time to face the consequences of this tiring adventure. What also made a lot of noise was the back and forth between the Italian team captain Filippo Volandri and an expert tennis player like Fabio Fognini.

Fognini isn't experiencing a great moment of form, but several times in recent years he has kept the level of Davis' team high. The missed call disappointed the former Monte Carlos Rolex Masters winner, and Fognini attacked Volandri who promptly responded.

However, the CEO of the Italian tennis federation Angelo Binaghi took care of dampening things down.

He talked about what happened on the Italian TV program Rai Sport and made the following statements: "There was just a simple misunderstanding between Fognini and our captain, but we will deal with it in the next few days.

I had a phone call with In recent days, Fabio has shown great balance and an intelligence that I have never seen in any player in recent years. There are all the conditions to clarify this misunderstanding."

Finally, Binaghi appeared optimistic when speaking about Italian tennis, saying: "Italian tennis, at this moment in which it has extraordinary objectives, needs everyone both on and off the court."
