At an event organized by the Italian newspaper La Gazzetta dello Sport, two former Italian tennis players former Slam champions, Flavia Pennetta and Francesca Schiavone, talked about teh Italian tennis, expressing also on Jannik Sinner.

The two, who often participate in the Slam legends' doubles tournament, talked about the moment in Italian tennis. They also talked about how the men's one, in particular, is ahead of the women's one at the moment. Yet, a few years ago, the question had opposite characteristics.

If the Italian tennis players, who will soon be busy with the Fed Cup, are fighting for the top 30, among the men, who will also soon be reunited for the final stages of the Davis Cup, there is a player who has managed to enter the top 5: Jannik Sinner.

Sinner has achieved a lot, especially in 2023: the Italian triumphed in the ATP Masters 1000 in Canada and reached his best ranking, as number 4 in the world, at the Beijing tournament. He only needs one more big step, by winning a Grand Slam tournament.

"He is ready for a Slam. In two or three years he has made extreme and very fast growth. He has clear objectives in mind and has the desire to do everything possible to achieve these objectives. A characteristic that only the best possess," said Francesca Schiavone.

The words of Flavia Pennetta

Flavia Pennetta, winner of the 2015 US Open, also spoke on this topic.

"They are alternating cycles: now it's the men's time. Women's tennis, however, isn't going so bad because we have good players, they are in the top 30 of the ranking.

The men are doing better: Jannik Sinner will be at the ATP Finals in Turin in less of a month and this stands out a lot. Women's and men's tennis have grown: in the women's field the only thing missing is the icing on the cake," declared Flavia Pennetta.

Sinner should play the Paris Rolex Masters to then move to the ATP Finals in Turin.
