Daniil Medvedev will have to defend his title at the ATP 500 tournament in Vienna against Jannik Sinner. The two will meet once again face to face, after the final a few weeks ago at the China Open in Beijing. The Russian tennis player will have the third opportunity to defend a title won the previous season, after wasting his first two attempts at the ATP Masters 1000 in Paris-Bercy and the ATP Finals in 2021.

The Russian became the most successful player of the season, recording an incredible 64-14 thanks to the victory against Stefanos Tsitsipas. The Russian had to deal with some problems, attributable more to a flu condition than to muscular discomfort, but he managed the important moments of the dispute well and closed with a score of 6-4, 7-6(6).

Speaking to ATP, Medvedev talked about the semifinal win and the today final: "It was a really tough match. I think I served well throughout the whole match, even though I hit a bad double fault in the tie-break.

I felt it could be a good second, I was a bit tired at that moment. But, overall, I'm happy with the way I served and the way I put pressure on Tsitsipas in many places in the second set. I had a lot of opportunities and he served well too.

This pressure usually pays off at the end of the match and I'm happy about that. When you play on such a fast surface and you have two excellent servers like me and Stefanos, a few games make the difference. When the surface is slower, you don't have all this pressure and you can manage the innings better.

But here you have to find a way to take advantage of the few opportunities. I'm happy that I was able to do it and that I won this match. MTO? Winter has arrived. I had some problems, I felt something dripping from my nose and I called the doctor to check it out.

It wasn't very easy, especially because I had to serve, but I reacted well. Sinner or Rublev? I've already faced them both in the final this year. Sinner even three times: maybe it's a record for me. They are having a fantastic season.

Sinner is finishing great, I'm curious to watch their match. Both can play well in these conditions. I will be ready to face the winner (The match between Sinner and Rublev had not yet started when Medvedev answered the question, with the Italian qualifying for the final - ed.)."
