Jannik Sinner began his adventure at the ATP Finals in Turin with a convincing victory. The Italian beat Stefanos Tsitsipas with a double 6-4, and is now preparing for the double match against Novak Djokovic and Holger Rune.
Sinner once again showed great progress on serve, Stefanos also admitted this in the press conference, and conceded very little to a rival who didn't even play terribly.
Jannik Sinner hopes to beat Holger Rune for the first time
In the post-match press conference Sinner made interesting statements, both on the match played and on the next and future opponents: "The atmosphere was really very nice, for me it's fantastic to play here in Turin, I'm playing at home.
Obviously there is a then pressure, but this time I handled it well and I'm happy. The performance was excellent and that's the important thing. I can say I'm satisfied. I already knew what to expect, in the end I played here even two years ago.
But I knew today was a little different. Many things have changed in two years, first of all my experience and how I have changed in two years. Many things have changed and my mentality is different. The crowd gave me a good push, they helped me not only when I made a point but above all when I lost it.
I have to understand that I don't play just for myself but also for the fans and this thing has to help me adjust myself accordingly. People follow me but above all they follow tennis. I feel that the passion for this sport in Italy is growing and this is an important step for the history of Italian tennis, I'm happy to be part of it.
I played a positive season and I feel like I'm constantly growing; before there was only one sport in Italy but now tennis is also growing. Before coming here and playing I had a week of training and for me it is essential to get used to the conditions.
I hope I can continue like this. Holger Rune? This year has been very useful for understanding certain situations, I think of the various defeats against Daniil Medvedev and the fact that they helped me find a way to win. I hope to do as with Medvedev, even with Holger I never won and this year in Munich he played great tennis. I can't wait to face it."
