Filippo Volandri, captain of the Italian team in the Davis Cup, was the main strategist who allowed his team to arrive in Malaga and win the competition. The former tennis player was often criticized by the Italian media, but in the end he demonstrated how his choices were correct.

Italy won its second Davis Cup in history, also thanks to the super performances of Jannik Sinner. Volandri created a magnificent group, he made choices that could have led to some criticism, such as the exclusion of Fabio Fognini, but in the end he achieved extraordinary success.

After hugging his wife and daughter at the end of the match, Volandri appeared visibly emotional, speaking in the press conference about this historic victory: "It must be said that Jannik Sinner really gave us a lot of things and there isn't even better all the time to explain how much he has given us.

But all the guys who are here and even those who aren't here right now have given a lot. That's why we did it, that's why we won this trophy. We had some problems, there were emergencies and big difficulties but in the end we made it."

The Italian Davis Cup captain also talked about the other winner of the day, the tennis player Matteo Arnaldi who concluded his 2023 in an extraordinary way.

Matteo commented on the success and analyzed: "There was definitely a lot of pressure. For me it was the first time in the Davis Cup and the first time I played for the team. I can't explain what I'm feeling, when I stepped onto the court I was nervous but I think that after winning the first set I had more pressure and it showed.

I didn't play my best tennis but in the end the results are what matters most. I played well in important moments and it was important for the team. I'm happy to have won and helped the team."
