Jannik Sinner was interviewed by the Italian showman Max Giusti, during the SuperTennis Awards ceremony, which celebrates the best Italian players of the year just ended. Jannik said that his season was sparked by the spectacular point he won against Carlos Alcaraz in Miami: "I lost that game, but I didn't even realize how beautiful that point was.

After the game they didn't talk about Alcaraz's victory, but about how good that play was." Sinner pointed to the win in Toronto as the turning point of his season. "The victory in Toronto was a key moment in my season. I had already achieved excellent results since the beginning of the year, but I still couldn't win my first Masters 1000.

I lost two finals in Miami. But winning it meant a lot to my career. But we weren't satisfied, we continued to work hard and it allowed us to have a great last part of the season," explained the Italian. It was also an important week in Vienna, beating Daniil Medvedev and Frances Tiafoe, against whom he had head-to-head matches against: "It was my fault when I lost two years ago.

I had also served for the match. He was very clever, but I didn't even realize it. This year, thanks to my team, I understood that I have to improve not so much on tactics, but on facing matches with my head." Finally, regarding the first victory over world number 1 Novak Djokovic, Sinner explained: "The first is different, special.

It was nice to do it with the Italian crowd in the stands. The second is a victory resulting from the great desire to win the Davis Cup. We knew we had a big chance because Spain and Russia weren't there. We were fighting from the Bologna group, with a lot of effort in Malaga we qualified for the semi-final and the final, then in the final it went easy."

Sinner's super season

Sinner has had a wonderful year, the best of his career so far.

First triumph in an ATP Masters 1000, first semifinal in a Slam, first victories against Daniil Medvedev, Holger Rune and Novak Djokovic, which made him acquire even more awareness of his abilities. The icing on the cake was undoubtedly the Davis Cup, which Italy had not won for 47 years, and of which he was the authentic driving force.

Thanks to all these results, the 22-year-old Italian earned the award for best Italian player of the year, awarded to him at the SuperTennis Awards.
