Jannik Sinner has shown that he can beat anyone, even in the most important tournaments on the Tour, and in Melbourne he will have to compete with the weight of being one of the favourites. The 2024 edition of the Australian Open, for Jannik, will be a completely different Slam than the others.

In the press conference on the eve of the Australian Open, the young Italian tennis player took stock of the situation, explaining the importance of always believing in oneself and one's means.

"I got to Australia early actually. I've been here for a week, more or less. It's a nice time of year, because it's summer here. I had the chance to play a couple of games at the Kooyong Classic. I hope I'm ready. My 2023 ended pretty late. I also played the Davis Cup and basically only stopped for one week, then I started training. I wanted to start training as soon as possible, it's really important for me and my body. We want to understand whether to use this scheme also in the coming years. We will have all the answers on Sunday," explained Sinner at the press conference, referring to the plan established with his team at the end of 2023.

Sinner and the mental power

The 22-year-old Italian preferred to focus on physical preparation and did not participate in any official event before the Australian Open. The mental aspect is fundamental in tennis, and Sinner is aware that he must continue to work from this point of view to improve as a person and as a player.

"I feel quite confident and I think I can play very good tennis. The goal is to stay in the present. I'm here to play good tennis and it's difficult to predict how the season will go. I played really well in the final part of 2023. I definitely still have that confidence, but every season and every tournament is different. I've been missing competition for the last month and a half. It's nice to be here again, feeling the connection with the audience.

Mentality is a key aspect in the world of sport. Winning shows the progress you are making as a player. I lost six times in a row to Daniil Medvedev, but I realized that I could beat him if I played at a certain level. You always have to believe in yourself, I think that's the most important thing for a tennis player," he told.

The Italian consolidated the fourth position in the ATP world ranking, experiencing a protagonist final season. He reached the final stage of the Nitto ATP Finals and won the Davis Cup, making a decisive difference. Sinner will open the program on the Rod Laver Arena and will face an opponent not to be underestimated, the Dutch Botic van de Zandschulp.
