Holger Rune was ousted from the Australian Open 2014 in the second round of the Slam tournament, after losing to the 21-year-old Frenchman Arthur Cazaux.

In the press conference, the former ATP No.4 talked about the defeat he suffered, underlining his disappointment, but explaining how he is nevertheless motivated to move forward.

"From the preseason until now I have dedicated myself to always being at my best. Obviously I am disappointed to have lost, but now I have to move forward and improve. It's a shame but we have to look at what went well and what didn't go so well. I have to come back stronger and think about the things I need to improve," explained Rune.

The 203-year-old seemed rather mature in front of the media, aware of what an important year it is, after last year's various changes in the team, with the arrival of coaches Boris Becker and Severin Luthi, historic coaches of Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer, respectively.

Rune on his match

The goal is naturally to progress in different aspects of his game in order to consistently get closer to the level of the best: even in 2023 Rune was discontinuous with results, although in the second part of the season he had to deal with some physical problems.

On the match he further added: "When you are where I am, everyone plays freely, the same thing happened to me in Brisbane against Shevchenko. But when you allow them to play well, they will definitely play 100% because they have nothing to lose.

Anyone can play tennis at this level. Arthur had nothing to lose, he tried and I let him do too much. But I'm getting more and more used to it. I didn't put enough pressure on him. He played good tennis and credit goes to him."
