It took over three hours, two tie-breaks and three sets, but in the end Coco Gauff was able to qualify for the semi-finals of the Australian Open 2024. The very young American tennis player will await the winner of the match between Barbora Krejcikova and Aryna Sabalenka, protagonists of the other quarter-final in Melbourne.

Thanks to this victory, Coco extended her winning streak to 10, from the beginning of 2024, considering her triumph at the ASB Classic in Auckland. Gauff is also undefeated at Slams in 12 straight matches, with the streak starting at the 2023 US Open.

At the press conference, the WTA No.4 analyzed the match, explaining what didn't work well in the first two sets, but underlining how she was happy to have achieved the victory. Gauff revealed that it was a very physical match, during which some shots, such as forehands and backhands, didn't work in the first set.

Coco analyzed the match: "The only thing I could do was try to win one game more than my opponent"

"In the first set I definitely wasn't playing great.

I played a bad forehand, I played a bad backhand and I wasn't serving well. The only thing I could do was try to win one game more than my opponent! That was really the "only thing. When you're down 5-1 you don't expect to win the set.

I tried to believe in every point and little by little I came back. It was a very physical, athletic match and in a certain sense we play in a similar way I think today I was just more aggressive, which is something I wish I had done from the start," said Coco.

The young American tennis player underlined that in general it was not a positive match, but adding that she was happy with the victory. Coco revealed that she felt good in the warm-up, but then something didn't work well during the match.

"It was a battle even if I think that today was definitely not a very positive match. I certainly didn't play my best tennis but I'm really proud to have won. I hope from now on I can play better. Yet when I warmed up in the pre-match, I moved well, I hit well, I served well.

When I entered the court and had two break points in the first game, I felt that everything was going the right way. Then I honestly don't know what happened. It just happened. I couldn't be responsive and it was frustrating but, again, I'm happy that I got through it," she explained.
