Jannik Sinner has qualified for the semi-finals of the ABN AMRO Open, ATP 500 tournament in Rotterdam, the first tournament that the young Italian plays after his triumph at the Australian Open. And the opponent was the same one he had in Melbourne in the first round: Botic Van de Zandschulp. And the result was the same too. Sinner had no problems and won 6-3 6-3.

"I really wanted to get back on the pitch, I wanted to go back to playing in front of the public. We work hard to live these moments. We trained a lot in Monte Carlo in the last few days but I wanted to get here to Rotterdam early to try this course," said Jannik in the on-court interview.

Talking about the success against Van de Zandschulp with Sky Sport, Sinner said he was satisfied with the victory because he is a great player.

"The first match of a tournament is always a bit complicated. He is a difficult and very aggressive player, I tried to play in the right way. I played an excellent match and I'm happy to be back on the court.

After Melbourne we immediately got to work. Every match and every tournament has different situations that need to be handled differently. By working hard there is the awareness of being able to manage many situations," said the young Italian.

Sinner also analyzed what changed when he took the court after winning a Grand Slam tournament.

"It's a little different than before, but as a player you have to be prepared because your opponents know you better, you have to work on this aspect and we try to do it every day. However, every match has its own story, today went well and I hope to be ready for the next one which will be very tough."

Jannik Sinner's round of 16 opponent will be Gael Monfils and the match will be played at 7.30pm on Thursday 15 February.

"He is really dangerous and one of the fans' favorites every time he plays. Every time we played against him they were tough matches. I saw his debut in the first round against Shapovalov and he played very well. He moves well, he is serving well, I'm happy to be able to take the court again. With him I have to do something different than in the first round because he is a different player," he told.
