The Australian tennis player Alex De Minaur won the Abierto Mexicano Telcel presentado por HSBC, ATP 500 in Acapulco, confirming last year's victory. De Minaur clearly defeated Casper Ruud in straight sets, thus returning to the top 10 of the ATP ranking.

De Minaur is having a truly enviable performance, second only to Daniil Medvedev and  Jannik Sinner, with whom he also lost the final in Rotterdam. With this victory the Australian won the 8h title of his career.

Speaking at a press conference after the win, Alex talked about the match and what it meant to him this week.

"It was an incredible week. It was probably a week I wasn't expecting, if I'm honest. I came into Mexico not feeling my best and I kept telling myself to keep giving myself chances. Today I think I played my best match of the tournament, so I'm very happy," he told.

Alex is also the first player to defend the title in Acapulco since the tournament moved to hard-courts in 2014.

"Acapulco was a very beautiful place for my tennis career. The first time I won a 500 and now the first time I defended a title in my career. I feel at home here and it's a fantastic place," said De Minaur.

There were also some nice words for Ruud, a tennis player and man for whom he has great respect: "I want to say great things to Casper, not just this week or last, not just for the tennis you play... but for the type of competitor and player you are.

You are well respected on the circuit for your values and the way you compete every week. That's something I really admire about you. Congratulations to your team. It wasn't easy. You worked hard, guys. Thanks for the great match. I wish you all the best for the rest of the year."

The Sydney tennis player can boast a record of 15 wins and 4 defeats at the start of the season.
