Grigor Dimitrov defeated Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz, qualifying for the semi-final of the Miami Open thanks to an extraordinary performance.
The Bulgarian will now challenge Alexander Zverev in the semifinal of the ATP Masters 1000 in Florida.

Grigor played a sensational match, dominating his young Spanish opponent for the entire match, thanks to some sparkling and aggressive tennis, knocking Alcaarz out of the tournament with the final score of 6-2 6-4.

"Carlos is amazing. I love watching him play. Honestly, I love watching him play, I love training against him, competing against him. I mean, I'm 12 years older than him. Honestly, it's a lot of fun for me to test myself. It's a great opportunity for me.

I was aware of what was happening, how it was happening. And I knew that if I had another chance and opportunity, I could actually, like, step in, and that would give me another chance.

Against him you can't really let him hit the ball. I think we saw what happened even when I was leading in the second set of the match, he broke me. There were four straight ones. There was absolutely nothing I could have done. But there was no, you know, there was no reason for me to drift. I just had to stay patient.

That's what happened, I think, in the last game. I didn't hold back. I continued to believe in the game I was playing and, once again, the execution was very good," said Dimitrov at the press conference, after beating Alcaraz.

The match

The Bulgarian player started with very high intensity. After canceling two break points in his opening game, he forced the Spaniard's serve, realizing the advantage and then taking a 3-0 lead.

Three games fought and all three won by Dimitrov. In the fourth game Alcaraz won the first game of their match. Dimitrov's level remained very high and he made it 4-1. To then close the set 6-2, forcing serve again from the Spanish player.

In the second set, Alcaraz continued to find no solutions against a super Dimitrov. In the fourth game the Bulgarian broke away and got the break with a truly impressive forehand winning return. In the sixth game Dimitrov had a ball to make it 5-1 which Alcaraz however canceled out.

Here the Spaniard rebelled against the defeat and broke the Bulgarian's serve to zero, returning to 3-4. Alcaraz went from a possible 1-5 to 4-4 in just a few minutes. The Bulgarian held serve here, closing the ninth game with an ace.

And with a tenth return game full of winners, Grigor forced serve again on Alcaraz to close 6-4. A splendid match for Dimitrov who now faces Zverev in the semi-finals. We remind you that in the semi-final of the bottom half Jannik Sinner and Daniil Medvedev will face each other.
