Holger Rune reached the quarterfinals of the Monte Carlo Rolex Masters at the end of an incredible match with Grigor Dimitrov, at the end of a simply crazy day for him.

Rune is challenging Jannik Sinner in the quarterfinals of the tournament in these minutes. The 20-year-old Dane is 2-1 up against the Italian in head-to-head matches and defeated him in the semi-finals last year in Monte-Carlo last time.

"It will be great to face Sinner. He is definitely the favorite at the moment. I have a record of 2-1 in head-to-head matches, but we will see what happens. I think only Carlos Alcaraz has managed to beat him this year. It will be a great challenge and I will try to do my best to recover after a long day like this," he explained.

The choice made by the tournament organizers who placed the match between Sinner and Rune immediately after the one between Stefanos Tsitsipas and Karen Khachanov caused a lot of discussion. In fact, the Dane will have little time to rest after playing two matches on the same day.

As mentioned, the Dane had a crazy day at the ATP Masters 1000 in Monte Carlo: he first took to the court to close the match with Sumit Nagal, which was interrupted due to the rain. A challenge that continued until the third set.

A few hours later, Rune then played one of the most exciting matches of the season and canceled two match points from Dimitrov.

"It was a great match. I think I played a good first set, it was very long and physically tough. I had already played a match before and I played five sets in total today, which is brutal. Grigor is playing a great season and beating him gives me good feelings. I'm happy with the victory," he said.

... and Sinner equally ready to face Rune...

The Dane is ahead 2-1 in head-to-head matches, as mentioned, but that was another Jannik and in the past the Italian lost a particular challenge against Rune.

In the press conference after reaching the quarterfinals, he explained: "I think I've learned, I think a lot of things have changed since that match and in general I try to learn from every challenge. I watched it sporadically but the first match I saw took place at the Challenger in Ortisei and Andreas Seppi was playing.

Then when I was 14 I started watching tennis all the time, but I didn't watch matches from the past, I preferred to watch matches like those with Federer, Nadal, Djokovic or Andy Murray. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to challenge some of them, I'm thinking of Federer or Tsonga," he told.

Sinner certainly starts with the odds against Rune, the Dane is back from a marathon and also called a medical timeout. In the match against Dimitrov, however, Sinner does not want to be caught unprepared and wants revenge compared to last year's match.
