What are the real reasons for Holger Rune's defeat in Munich? According to his mother Aneke, the problem is due to a flu problem.

Rune was defeated on Saturday in the semifinals of the ATP 250 tournament in Bavaria by German Jan-Lennard Struff. It was a very clear defeat for the Dane, who was eliminated from the tournament with a score of 6-2 6-0 in 44 minutes of play.

The extent of the No. 2 seed's defeat raised many doubts. Aneke Rune, who is also her manager, explained the reasons for her son's defeat during an interview with the Danish portal BT.

Aneke Rune reveals Holger's condition in Munich

"Holger was ill all week and played through gritted teeth because he didn't want to withdraw from the tournament. Simply on Saturday during the semi-finals he had a totally empty tank. There's not much more to say about it," she told.

"Of course, major credit must also be given to Struff who did very well to make the most of this opportunity and win the match," she added.

Now for Rune, as for all the other players, the clay season is entering the heart of the season. In fact, the Masters 1000 in Madrid begins this week and then it will be the turn of the Italian Internationals in Rome.

The clay swing will end at Roland Garros for the second Slam of the season. Rune is called upon to straighten out in this phase of the clay season a year that is not positive for him at the moment.

Regarding Munich, Struff also won his first career tournament at the age of almost 34, beating Taylor Fritz in the final.
