"This tournament is always amazing, the food is amazing. I love everything about Rome and even the location of the draw was incredible. Physically I'm very well, I'm also mentally charged and I'm ready to play. I think it's easier to play in Rome than in Madrid." In 2023, Holger Rune stopped just one step away from the title at the Internazionali BNL d'Italia, but this year the aim is to win to add a new ATP Masters 1000 title to his collection.

The Dane took part in the ceremony that drew the men's main draw of the Italian Open and, in an interview with Sky Sport, talked both about the Italian tournament and about his ambitions.

"My goal is always to win. I think match after match starting from the second round to get to the end," he added.

Rune is ready for the Italian Open

Rune had his first training session on the Central Court of the Foro Italico with Taylor Fritz.

At the end of the session, the 21-year-old Dane spent some time with fans taking photos and signing autographs. The Dane, seeded number 10, occupies the bottom half of the main draw, the same as Daniil Medvedev (the tennis player who defeated him last year in the final), Andrey Rublev, Hubert Hurkacz and Rafael Nadal.

Rune awaits one between Luca Nardi and Daniel Altmaier in the second round while in the third he could find Sebastian Baez. In the background in the round of 16 is a challenge against Hurkacz, who will however have to pay close attention to Rafael Nadal.

A rematch against Medvedev is only possible in the quarterfinals. "The courts there were at altitude and it was very cold. Here, however, the climate is fantastic and this tournament is always beautiful," he then told.
