At the end of the match won against Jack Draper in the 3rd round of the Internazionali BNL d'Italia, the Russian champion Daniil Medvedev commented on what happened to Novak Djokovic on the Central Court, when a water bottle that fell from a fan's backpack fell on the Serbian champion's head, causing him even a wound.

"I saw what happened to Djokovic. It's difficult to find a personal episode. Before the Wimbledon qualifiers, where I lost to Marcus Willis, we had a day off which I spent at Aorangi Park. To enter there is a sort of cell and you have to duck slightly. I didn't pay much attention and hit the top of the cell. Sometimes it happens, it doesn't matter. When you suffer a blow to the head you immediately put your hands in that area because you feel pain.

I look at my arm and it's full of blood. I tell myself I have to go to hospital, stitches etc. The next day I lost the game. I felt like I played well actually, but Marcus had a really good run that year. After the match I asked myself: Did I lose because I hit my head or not? It's a story no one knew. It's not even that bad, but I remember it well," explained Medvedev, who will return to the court in a few hours to play the 4th round against Hamad Medjedovic.

Djokovic showed at the Foro Italico wearing a hat and an ironic helmet to close with a smile an issue that has caused much discussion. Through a new perspective, it was proven that a spectator intent on asking the Serbian champion for an autograph accidentally lost the water bottle from his backpack and the latter unfortunately fell on the Belgrade native's head. Djokovic, after being helped by the medical staff, reached the hotel to rest without taking part in the post-match press conference.
