Evidently the Parisian crowd has decided to exaggerate, this year. David Goffin won the first round of the Roland Garros against the young French talent Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard. A match that will be remembered for the very ugly and disrespectful behavior of the crowd towards the Belgian tennis player.

At the press conference after the victory, Goffin talked about the behavior of the crowd, revealing how tennis could soon be invaded by very disrespectful fans on the courts, as happens in soccer. This, according to the Belgian, led to a grotesque situation.

"My reaction? When you are insulted for three and a half hours you also have to tease the audience a bit. It's a ridiculous situation, some people just come to create problems rather than a real atmosphere. Someone spat chewing gum on me, the match was getting complicated and I decided not to think about this thing that could have destabilized me.

Something needs to be done about it, many people and even referees complain that there is no respect. I think this thing only happens here in France, it doesn't in the other Slams and both at Wimbledon and at the US Open I have always experienced a calm atmosphere, here it is really unhealthy. It's becoming like soccer, soon there will be hooligans, smoke bombs and fights in the stands," he explained.

Goffin is only the latest tennis player to complain about a situation that seems to be increasingly present within the playing courts, between those who support their tennis player in an exaggerated manner and those who instead think about betting and their own stakes. In short, controversies are raining down on the ATP circuit. In recent months we have seen tennis players complain several times about the crowds and an overly hostile attitude. Someone referred to betting, someone else to nationality but one often has the feeling that perhaps this is exaggerating.
